Just Be You

The Goal/Lesson Learned:

It’s so easy to feel like you don’t fit in. The world, especially on social media, makes it easy to make you want to change yourself just to fit into what you think is "accepted." Peer pressure is a real thing that I think we’ve all experienced at some point. The people we hang with matters. It can effect us in a positive or negative way and we get to choose. Choose between a path that leads us down our own way or God’s way. I just want you to know that God doesn’t make mistakes. He loves you just the way you are. We don’t have to change the way we look or act just to fit in. You are beautiful. You are unique. You are… you.

Why I wrote this song:

I wrote this song because this is something everyone has gone through. Friends can sometimes try to convince you to do things you shouldn’t do. Maybe you feel like you will be more accepted if you just change the way you dress or act. Peer pressure is something I experienced in my high school years. One thing I learned is that you don’t have to change who you are just to fit in. What may be “cool” in your friend’s eyes, may not be what God thinks of you. God already has a place for you, so you don’t have to force it for yourself. Truth is, you find out who your real friends are whenever you stand up for yourself and what you believe in. True friends will encourage you to do the right things and they will always support you in living the way God has always intended for you. They will love you for you. Maybe you feel different. Maybe you feel like you don't fit in. I've felt that way too. I can promise you that there is nothing wrong with being different. It's so important to love yourself for who you are. Don’t let people change you.

Prayer:

Hey God,

Help me to be confident in who I am and who you created me to be. Help me to love myself like you love me. Help me to accept myself just as you do and with a bold confidence, live and walk in the life you want me to live in. And, help me to not allow others’ actions and opinions sway me away from you. Make my heart stronger each day given from this moment on. Today, I choose your ways. I fully step in and walk out the calling you have just for me!

Interaction:

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

-Romans 12:2

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.

-Psalm 1:1

They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you. -1 Peter 4:4

1. Name a time when you gave into conforming or peer pressure.

Was it for the good or bad?

What made you do this?

2. If you have ever fallen into peer pressure, what do you think you could have said or done differently now?

3. Were you ever mocked or made fun of for standing up for yourself and your beliefs?

If so, how did you feel and how did you handle that?

This was so amazing and I really need to hear this and the questions you ask!

The first,

When I was in middle school was the first time I gave into peer pressure and it was bad and at the time I had a girlfriend and my friends and she peer pressure me into doing something I didn’t want to do.

Second,

I think I could have said no or ended it and walked away because after the peer pressure me the first they keep want me to do thing. Yes I was definitely and made fun of because i finally stood up for myself and said no even though it ended friendships and my relationship. After that I knew…
